On 19th January evening, more than 2,000 participants demonstrated in Zurich with the intention to express their dissatisfaction with the fact that the World Economic Forum (WEF) is held in Davos and that the US President Donald Trump participates in it in full force, the Keystone-SDA agency informed.

Under it, the protest started at 6:30 p.m. local time (8:30 p.m. Moscow time) on the Burkliplatz Square. The rally in the streets of Zurich was organised with the slogan, ” Trump is still not welcome!” The protesters fired firecrackers and smoke bombs, one of them even lit the US flag ablaze. The messages of the banners are “Trump is sick” or “Close the WEF”.

According to the agency, the initiator of the demonstration was a left-wing organisation called Movement for Socialism. The organisers claim that with Trump, the US foreign policy is back to gunboat diplomacy, or the policy of bullying the weaker states with force or the threat thereof to make them submit. Politically, the organisation perceives the visit of the American leader to the Davos forum as an expression and symbol of the political crisis situation.

WEF is a Swiss non-governmental organisation, the annual meetings of which involve business leaders, political leaders, and experts in different fields. The meeting will take place from January 19 to 23 in 2026.
