Canada Joins EU’s Defense Spending Surge Initiative

Canada has agreed on the membership of the European Union Security Action of Europe (SAFE) program that will provide Canadian military companies with wider access to the European market, said the office of Prime Minister Mark Carney on 1st December.

Canada’s involvement in SAFE will cover major gaps in capability, increase the market for the suppliers in Canada, and draw the investment of European defense in Canada, Carney said in a statement.

The 150-billion-euro rearmament fund announced earlier this year, SAFE, is one of the key initiatives to prepare the European Union to protect itself by the year 2030 in the event of a Russian attack and uncertainty that the US will do so on its side.
