Diplomatic Push: China Urges France to Take Its Side in Japan Dispute

On 2nd December, Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated the Chinese stand on the comments made by the Japanese prime minister on Taiwan during their meeting with his French counterpart in Beijing and urged Paris to again comprehend and take sides with that position.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said last month that a hypothetical Chinese attack on democratically governed Taiwan would elicit a response in Tokyo.

In a meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, who accompanied French President Emmanuel Macron on a three-day visit to China, Wang suggested that China and France should communicate and cooperate more.
