As president of the Association of Sri Lanka-China Social and Cultural Cooperation, speaking at the ceremony, Indrananda Abeysekera said the opening of the library gave the Sri Lankan scholars and all interested in China a new, rare avenue to study the great civilization of China in a systematic way.

Ni Lisheng, the head of the China Cultural Center in Sri Lanka, noted that the library would not just be a reading room, but also a cultural window, wherein people will obtain information about Chinese culture and the lively process of modern China.

The library has currently acquired a stock of 4,500 books on different subjects, including Chinese history, art, literature, and science and technology. Moreover, the library also has an electronic management system, which guarantees a smooth and unhindered reading and borrowing process for the readers.
