On 1st November, the 14th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th Chinese People Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee passed a decision to hold grand commemorative activities to pay tribute to the 160th anniversary of the birth of the great national hero, the great patriot and the great forerunner of the democratic revolution in China, Sun Yat-sen, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Saturday.
The celebrations are intended to remember the eternal contributions made by Sun Yat-sen to the cause of national independence, social development, and the welfare of the people, learn and pass on his patriotic spirit, revolutionary spirit, and hardworking spirit, and to enhance the unity of the Chinese people both at home and to the international community, Xinhua said.
A patriotic united front is also among the aims of the commemoration to consolidate and broaden the broadest possible patriotic united front; promote peaceful formation of the relations across the Taiwan Straits and the pursuit of the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization, as Xinhua reported.
Born in South China, Guangdong Province, in 1866, Sun Yat-sen was a first-mover of the 1911 Revolution that overthrew the imperial Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and broke thousands of years of feudal rule in China.
