BTS’ RM to Make Debut Personal Art Collection at SFMOMA Show

The K-pop behemoth’s leader will debut his own personal art collection in a show at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) in October next year.

Why it matters: The historic collaboration will introduce fans to RM’s connection with art and creativity, and will most likely attract visitors from all corners of the globe to San Francisco.

Taking the lead: 200 artworks from both RM and SFMOMA collections will be on display, placing contemporary Korean works in conversation with global modern pieces.

Some of the artists on exhibit are Dansaekhwa trailblazer Yun Hyong-keun, ink painter Park Rehyun, abstract painter Kim Whanki, and modernist Georgia O’Keeffe.

SFMOMA hosts the show from October 2026 to February 2027. RM curates the collection with SFMOMA’s América Castillo and Hyoeun Kim.

What they’re saying: “We exist in an era characterized by boundaries. This exhibition at SFMOMA is a reflection of those boundaries: East and West, Korea and America, modern and contemporary, personal and universal,” RM said in a statement.

“My only wish is that this exhibition can be a small but solid bridge for many.”

The big picture: BTS exploded onto the music scene in 2013 and has since constructed a huge worldwide fan base with hit single after hit single. RM alone has 49 million Instagram followers.

The rapper regularly posts about his stops in art museums and wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday that “it feels both humbling and meaningful to now prepare this exhibition.”

RM, who served his military duty last June, revealed that SFMOMA contacted him for the collaboration in the latter half of last year.

“The excitement still comes vividly to mind, as if I were sketching out countless ideas all over again,” he added. “I would be honored if you could visit with an open heart.”
