Anutin Charnivirakul is reportedly planning to roll out a fresh version of the “Khon La Khrueng” (Let’s Go Halves) subsidised shopping scheme as one of his first economic initiatives after taking office as Prime Minister.
According to sources of the Bhumjaithai Party, the incoming premier views the programme as a fast-track measure to restore purchasing power and instil vitality into household spending. The move comes amidst concerns over sluggish grassroots economic activity and weakening consumer confidence.
The new scheme is inspired by the popular policy introduced during the administration of former Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha. Apart from the subsidy helping households reduce daily living expenses, it also boosted sales for small community shops and local vendors.
During the past government, this “Khon La Khrueng” policy was highly popular, which helped to ease costs for families while encouraging spending in local markets, as revealed by a party source.
By reviving and adapting the programme, Anutin is gesturing his intent to deliver tangible economic relief early in his tenure. The details of the revised scheme are not yet disclosed. The revised scheme is to be transferred to the country’s present economic conditions, ensuring both consumers and small businesses benefit from the rollout.
