Earlier this month, top security officials of Iran and the UK held a telephonic call and agreed to continue exchanging opinions regarding Tehran’s nuclear programme, multiple media agencies are quoting official sources.
The discussions made recently touched on the topic of resuming nuclear negotiations to settle the issue of the UN nuclear sanctions. This situation is being closely monitored by experts in different parts of the globe.
It has been reported that the top security officials of Iran and the UK agreed to continue exchanging opinions on addressing all the issues related to the nuclear programme. It appears both parties are going to focus much more on negotiations.
Possibility of reinstalling Iran’s nuclear sanctions
The UK, France and Germany are the European parties to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. These three countries recently referred the ongoing dispute to the UN Security Council to be discussed as the global body in September 2025.
Discussions are going to be held on the possibility of reinstalling Iran’s nuclear sanctions blocked under Resolution 2231 for a decade. The 12-day brutal fighting Iran and Israel engaged in back in June has also brought the nuclear deal into focus.
On June 24, both countries reached a ceasefire. The conflict erupted on June 13 as Israel attacked nuclear and military sites in Iran, claiming that the Middle Eastern country is close to building nuclear ammunition, reported BBC.
