Tibet-border dispute and Pakistan’s stance remain India’s biggest military challenges

Speaking as the chief guest at a symposium on “National Security Challenges before India” held at the Gorakhnath Temple in Uttar Pradesh, India’s top military officer Gen Chauhan recently highlighted the country’s biggest security challenges.

The top challenges include the Tibet-border dispute and the proxy fighting being run by Pakistan against India. The topic featuring China is the biggest challenge for India and the second major issue is the one featuring Pakistan, he said.

Gen Chauhan is India’s Chief of Defence Staff. In his speech in Uttar Pradesh earlier this month, he emphasized that border disputes continue to pose formidable security threats. This situation is being closely monitored by experts in different parts of the globe.

In his speech in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India’s Chief of Defence Staff Gen Chauhan spoke of the Tibet-border issue, the Pakistan issue, threats from regional instability and fast-changing technology.

On September 5, the Foreign Ministry of India denied a report that noted the existence of a ‘secret letter’. The MEA spokesperson highlighted that the story running in the media is ‘incorrect’. The report suggested that China had apparently sent a letter to India.

Late last month, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, took part in the 25th meeting of the Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Council (SCO) in Tianjin. He also discussed a broad range of crucial topics, including the border issue.
