This is happening in Bethlehem – a suburb of Tauranga in NZ’s North Island. There is a street – that has multiple houses being built for families in need – that has just been named in honour of a community champion.
The project is part of the Doing Good Foundation Bay of Plenty, formerly Habitat for Humanity. The street – named after Don Brebner – is going to see the construction of multiple houses for a number of Tauranga people in need.
Brebner joined Bay of Plenty Habitat for Humanity back in 1995, responsible for managing family selection and public relations. It is important to remember the person for his selflessness and his unflinching commitment to the betterment of the community.
Tauranga families getting a head start in housing market
During his time at the charity, Don Brebner started the ‘Thousand Dollar Club’ – something that appeals to people, charities, churches and retirement homes for medium-term loans to support its cause. Isn’t it incredible?
The majority of lenders turned their loans into donations out of admiration for the effort Habitat for Humanity had been putting in for the community. During his time, Brebner also engaged in establishing food collection points, securing donations and ensuring families did not go hungry.
This charity is responsible for helping Tauranga families currently on the financial edge get a head start in the housing market. Eligible applicants must meet a set of criteria, including residing in Tauranga for at least a couple of years.
