USTM Celebrates Cultural Carnival on International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

To mark the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the Department of Sociology at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) hosted a vibrant cultural carnival and workshop on Saturday. The event served as a tribute to the rich heritage and enduring traditions of Indigenous communities.

The celebration began with a traditional welcome ceremony, setting the tone for a day dedicated to cultural appreciation and exchange. 

USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque graced the occasion, lending his support to the university’s efforts in preserving Indigenous knowledge and heritage.

Students and faculty participated enthusiastically, showcasing a variety of handcrafted Indigenous decorative items, crafts, and souvenirs, each telling a story of ancestral wisdom. The highlight was the display of traditional dishes prepared using native ingredients, offering attendees a flavorful journey into age-old culinary practices.

This immersive experience emphasized the importance of Indigenous culture in fostering identity, resilience, and continuity.
