Guernsey Politician Jonathan Le Tocq Suspended After Police Arrest

One of the most popular politicians of the island has been excluded by the government after being arrested by the police on Monday morning. Jonathan Le Tocq, who is in charge of Guernsey’s relationships with countries, was arrested on suspicion of having violated telecommunications laws.

According to ITV News, the Policy and Resources Committee has put the Guernsey politician on leave from all his business as police carry on investigations into the case. This council undertakes vital decisions on the island. All the other committee members agreed that Jonathan Le Tocq should have no participation in any official business in the course of the investigation.

On Monday, police arrested the 61-year-old Guernsey politician but released him on the same day. There have been no charges filed, and the investigation is ongoing. Police have refused to comment further as they insist on investigating the matter.

Investigation Could Take Time

In his email to the other members of the government, Guernsey Chief Minister Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez updated them on the situation. She said it was a massive shock to everyone, and people should not speculate on what happened. The Chief Minister answered that the investigation could be a long process by the police and this could be instead of a lot of years.

The imprisoned Guernsey politician had just been re-elected last month with more than 8,000 votes and placed in the election. Jonathan Le Tocq also attempted to regain power to become Chief Minister but was unsuccessful. He had also once been Chief Minister from 2014-2016.

Le Tocq now serves as the lead of the external relations of Guernsey, i.e., he looks after the links of the island with other governments and countries. It is a significant position for the small island. The case has been a subject of lots of interest to the people, but planners are urging people to hold off until the police investigation is over before concluding anything about the outcome.
